Every fifth (21%) teenager from eight regions of Ukraine, in particular front-line and border areas, has signs of psychological distress of varying severity and needs additional support. This is evidenced by the results of the study “Well-being and learning of adolescents in conditions of war”, given in the article “How war changes the ability of adolescents to learn” by project manager of the NGO “Navchai for Ukraine” Lesya Kravchuk.

Among adolescents with signs of psychological distress, the most common manifestations are symptoms of anxiety - almost 29% of respondents have them. At the same time, 26% of adolescents have signs of depression, and 17% of adolescents have signs of stress..

The level of emotional exhaustion of adolescents due to the war was separately assessed - constant internal tension, fears and fatigue. Half of them are at medium levels of exhaustion, and another quarter are at high levels.

The researchers noted that this condition must be taken into account when it comes to measuring educational losses. It is indicated that they cannot be reduced only to the number of missed lessons or gaps in knowledge.

The study was conducted among 3.4 thousand teenagers from Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Sumy, Nikolaev, Kharkov, Kherson, Chernigov and Kyiv regions.

Previously it was reported that the language in the family is the main factor that hinders the transition of adolescents to Ukrainian.
