Many of our citizens deliberately switched to the Ukrainian language since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. But Ukrainians often make mistakes during conversations, using Russianisms and surzhik. Channel 24 told how to say “like a cat crying” in Ukrainian.

The expression “like a cat cried” is very popular. This phraseological unit comes from the fact that cats by their nature do not cry tears, so they have almost no tears, or they are completely absent, and this observation was transferred to folk wisdom.

The expression can be translated literally and it will change its sound and meaning little. But in the Ukrainian language there are many colorful phraseological units that can replace this expression:.

like a whale cried;

like a cat has tears;

like mucus from worms;

with little finger;

drops in the sea;

at the hare's bound;

like a hare's tail;

from mosquito nizhka;

on the poppy seed;

not too thick;

by a hair's breadth;

from the peacock's soul (it is the peacock's soul that is tossed in the respect of the birds, not the peacock's);

from the bear.

We would like to remind you that schools in Austria will introduce the study of Ukrainian as a second foreign language..
