Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces Mikhail Drapaty reported to President Vladimir Zelensky about the situation with the 155th Anna Kievskaya Mechanized Infantry Brigade, which was prepared by France. This unit is planned to be strengthened, the commander said on Facebook on Wednesday, January 8.
Drapaty recalled that the formation and arming “from scratch” of a new brigade with a foreign partner took place for the first time and in a short time - in just a few months. He stressed that the French side had fully fulfilled its obligations to Ukraine..
“When generating a new team, there was a formal attitude on the part of those in charge: this included inappropriate management and control over the entire process; and errors during recruitment, and not always informed decisions on managing the brigade personnel; imperfect training planning both in Ukraine and abroad; and the belated reaction of the high command to the problems arising in the process of creating and acquiring capabilities of a new combat unit of the Ground Forces,” Drapaty wrote.
According to him, despite all the difficulties, the 155th brigade is at the front and holds its positions.
Drapaty said that the focus is on staffing the brigade with experienced officers and commanders of all levels. He is personally involved in this issue.
Also, according to the commander, the Ministry of Defense is working to provide the brigade “to the maximum”. New brigade commander receives support.
Drapaty also commented on the situation with the SOC in the brigade. He noted that “the situation is not easy,” and the main challenge is the low efficiency and motivation of mid-level commanders who directly manage people.
Previously, information was released about the improper formation and provision of the new 155th Mechanized Infantry Brigade named after Anna Kievskaya. Desertion and SOCH were reported, particularly while studying in France.
In turn, the State Bureau of Investigation began an investigation into the facts of desertion and abuse of authority in the 155th brigade.
