On March 24, Christians of the Western rite celebrate the Feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem. This holiday is also called Palm Sunday, and in some countries – Palm Sunday.

Holiday traditions.

In Ukraine, many traditions are associated with Palm Sunday. So, on the holiday, believers visit temples where they consecrate palm branches. Some people make bouquets from willow and add other flowers and plants to them.

In ancient times, they believed that the willow could protect a person from disease and poverty, and a house from fires, floods and other troubles.

There was a tradition of lightly beating children with willow branches and saying: “It’s not I who willow, it’s Great Day, there’s a red egg not far away.”!

Also on Palm Sunday, young men and women fought with the blessed willow, saying: “Be great as the willow, and healthy as the water, and rich as the earth.”!

Palm Sunday Prayers.

I call on the Higher Powers, hear my request and come to my aid. Please, grant Your blessing to the Servants of God (list the names of everyone for whom you pray). Protect them from troubles and misfortunes, cover them with your wings from opponents and envious people. Fill them with the power of Heaven so that they bring goodness and prosperity to the world, staying healthy. Amen.
