The law prohibits assigning names to geographical objects that exalt, perpetuate, propagandize or symbolize the occupying state or its sights, memorable, historical and cultural places, cities, dates, events, its figures who committed military aggression against Ukraine and other sovereign countries, state totalitarian.
The adopted norms will come into force three months after publication, after which self-government bodies and military administrations will have six months to free public space from the symbols of the “Russian world”: dismantle monuments and memorial signs, rename streets and other objects.
In addition, settlements whose names propagate Russian imperial policy, its figures or propagandists should be renamed..
Also, according to the law, settlements should be renamed, the names of which do not meet the standards of the Ukrainian language (like Oktyabrsky or South Ukrainian).
