Reducing the minimum passing score for applicants to medical universities to 100 points will lead to the fact that in 7-10 years Ukrainians will be treated by extremely incompetent doctors, says Pavel Kovtonyuk, co-founder of the Ukrainian Health Center.

He recalled that until 2018, medicine had the lowest passing score among all specialties - 130 UPE points, and as a result, those who could not enter other specialties entered medical universities.

" A place of salvation for the worst. It all ended you know what quality of our medicine. Now it's not 130. It's 100. The Ministry of Health calls the now abolished minimum barrier of 150 points " Oh no. Increased requirements - this is what our team insisted on in 2018 - 180 points. 150 - these were the minimum, compromise requirements. And 100 points is to open the door to medical universities for any mediocrity who is not only not able to enter at least somewhere, but in general is not capable of anything, ”Kovtonyuk emphasized..

He noted that people who are not able to score a high UPE score in order to study such an important specialty for the future state as medicine, then they will not be able to pass professional exams, but universities, in order to hide such a failure, will either lower the requirements, or simply for money will.

“The result of this policy will be that in 2030 we will be treated by extremely unskilled people. And the government will spend a lot of money to pay them a salary. Let me remind you that the 2030s is the period of our recovery, which the government is talking about so much now.. In order for our country to become stronger, we must not reduce, but increase the requirements for medical and any other education,” the expert emphasized..

Kovtonyuk stressed that for a successful future, programs and exams at Ukrainian universities should be synchronized with Western ones..

“Yes, we will raise a strong generation of modern doctors. Then the best talents from other countries will go and work in here.

Then the strongest professors will come here. Then science will revive. And for this to happen in 2030-2040, the decision must be made now,” he concluded..
