Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Lyudmila Denisova spoke at a meeting of the General Assembly of the Mediterranean Ombudsmen Association, according to her Facebook page. During her speech, she emphasized that the eight-year occupation by the Russian Federation of part of the territories of Ukraine led to systemic violations of human rights..

Almost 14 thousand citizens of Ukraine died due to violation of the right to life and security in the East of the country, among them 4 thousand civilians, including 152 children. About 34 thousand people were injured.

Denisova noted that disagreement with the actions of the occupiers, the pro-Ukrainian political or civic position of our fellow citizens become the basis for persecution and violation of the right to freedom and personal inviolability.

On politically and religiously motivated charges, 121 Ukrainian citizens are imprisoned in the temporarily occupied Crimea and the Russian Federation, including 86 Crimean Tatars. 71 people sentenced to long terms.

There are 296 Ukrainian citizens in illegal detention in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, of which: 252 civilians (including 4 volunteers), 44 military personnel.

Residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are deprived of the right to education and information in their native Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages.

The aggressor conducts active information propaganda, eradicates everything Ukrainian, destroys the national identity of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars.

“It is possible to influence the occupying state in order to end human rights violations only through coordinated international support to put pressure on the Russian Federation,” said Lyudmila Denisova.

Earlier we reported that Denisova turned to the UN because of the arrests in the occupied Crimea.. Denisova also appealed to the Commissioner of the Russian Federation for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova with a demand to take the necessary measures and respect the rights of illegally imprisoned Ukrainians on the Crimean Peninsula..
