The European Commission approved the acquisition of the German automaker Opel by the French automotive concern Peugeot Citroen.

The EU antitrust regulators did not put forward any additional conditions for the deal, writes DW.

As a result of the deal, Peugeot Citroen as an automaker will be the second largest in Europe, behind only the German company Volkswagen. Before the deal, which the parties can complete this month, Opel 88 years was owned by the American corporation General Motors.

On the plans of Peugeot Citroen to acquire for 1.3 billion euros from GM its subsidiaries - German Opel and British Vauxhall became known as early as early March.

Peugeot Citroen, 14% of shares owned by the French government, already had several joint projects with General Motors in the European market.

The American auto giant has suffered losses in the European market in recent years. After bankruptcy in 2009, General Motors wanted to sell Opel, but left it to maintain its presence in Europe.

In December 2013, an American company sold its 7% stake in Peugeot Citroen after some joint projects between the two companies were unsuccessful. Because of this, Peugeot Citroen had to take credit from the French government.
