By 2050, the world's population will increase from the current 7.6 billion to 9.8 billion people.
This is reported by the world's media with reference to the UN press center.
"Between 2017 and 2050, half of the world's population will be concentrated in only nine countries: India, Nigeria, Congo, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, the United States, Uganda and Indonesia," the report said..
It is expected that India, which is currently the world's second largest (1.3 billion people), will "overtake" China (1.4 billion people) for seven years.
The UN noted that 47 of the least developed countries show high fertility rates - an average of 4.3 births per woman (in the period 2010-2015). According to forecasts, by 2050, 26 countries in Africa will at least double the population.
In addition, Nigeria, which has the fastest population growth in the world, will catch up with the United States by 2050.
At the same time, the population of a number of developed countries will "grow old and shrink". For example, in the United Nations, countries with fertility levels below the "replenishment level" were named: China, the United States, Brazil, Russia, Japan, Vietnam, Iran, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
