The construction of the Sforz castle, which is now located in the very center of Milan, began in the mid-1300s. To date, only 1/6 part remained from the original structure. Around 1495, Leonardo da Vinci and other artists were hired to decorate the internal walls and ceilings of the castle. It was at that time that Leonardo da Vinci made sketches of defensive fortifications of the castle, as well as several passages that were lost over time.

" But now it has become clear that these secret passages can be much more interesting than that part that is currently available, ”says Francesca Biolo Polytechnic University, a historian of architecture from Milan Polytechnic University.

In her study, Biolo collaborated with the authorities of the Sforza castle and the engineering company Codevintec Italiana to develop and test a new method of digitizing complex buildings, such as the castle of the Sforza.

The team of scientists examined the underground spaces of the castle. For this, researchers used several methods, including laser scanning, GPS, three -dimensional georandal research and photogrammetry to create a three -dimensional model. Scientists tried to understand whether there are secret passages or other spaces under the castle, which still remained unknown.

" We discovered rooms at the second underground level and an additional passage, which is parallel to the famous one, ”says Biolo.

Scientists believe that the passages discovered by them are among those who illustrated Di Vinci in his sketch in 1495.

" Nevertheless, it is impossible to determine the exact degree of Leonardo's participation in the construction of the Milan fortress, ”Biolo added.

She added that under the castle of the Sforza, much more can be found, but excavations are impossible.

"

Recall that Leonardo da Vinci learned to draw, dismembering the corpses. The scientist used science to improve his artist's skills.
