Last year, the authors of one of the studies stated that the consequences of Lokdown due to Covid-19 were felt even on the moon, which caused a slight decrease in temperature on its surface. Now, the authors of the new study published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society are disputed by this statement and believe that it is impossible to unequivocally find a connection between a decrease in the global emissions of greenhouse gases associated with the Locdown, and a drop in temperature on the moon, writes Space.

After several studies showed that Lokdown had a significant impact on the quality of air around the world, scientists last year decided to find out whether atmospheric changes could influence the moon.

They analyzed the data collected at various points near the equator of the moon using the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter orbital apparatus and found that the temperature on the surface of the moon fell 8-10 degrees Celsius from April to May 2020. Scientists explained this by the presence of Locks on Earth and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.

When sunlight reaches the Earth, part of it is absorbed by the surface, and the rest is reflected in the form of radiation. The heated planet also releases its own radiation. Both types of radiation are affected by greenhouse gases held in the atmosphere. At the same time, these radiations create a weak glow visible on the moon, known as the light of the Earth.

The moon receives most of the solar heat during the lunar day. At night, the visible side of the moon receives only the heat of our planet. Previous studies have shown that the light of the Earth can affect the night temperature on the moon.

Last year, scientists said that the presence of a smaller amount of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere reduces the amount of light and heat reflected by our planet into space.

The authors of the new study studied the data obtained and believe that it cannot be unequivocally said that there is a connection between the Locks on Earth and a decrease in temperature on the moon.

There is no doubt that the light of the Earth heats the surface of the moon and scientists discovered a decrease in night temperature from April to May 2020. But the scientists also found that the night temperature on the moon began to decline in 2019, before the World Lokdown was introduced. The authors of the new study say that a decrease in temperature occurs gradually, and not suddenly.

Scientists say that it is currently impossible to say with any degree of confidence that the drop in temperature on the moon is the result of a decrease in the activity of people on Earth during quarantine due to Covid-19.

Scientists believe that new observations are needed to better understand the reasons for lowering temperature on the moon.

As Focus already wrote, the astronomers discovered another water world in the solar system. Scientists believe that the fourth largest satellite of Uranus, like some satellites of Saturn and Jupiter, hides the ocean from liquid water in its bowels.

Focus also wrote that the first European landing module in history will fly to the moon, which has its own unique features.
