Scientists stated that the probability of the existence of a reasonable life in the universe is “very likely”, moreover, it can be hidden somewhere in our own galaxy, the Milky Way. This was written by Michel Ransstedter, professor of biophysicists at the University of McMaster in an article on Live Science.

He noted that we live in the golden age of space development, scientists collect a huge amount of information with an incredible pace. But the eternal question of whether we are alone in the universe, remains open.

Give an accurate definition of what life is is quite difficult. Although we intuitively understand that living organisms have life, an accurate definition can elude us. Dictionaries offer different definitions, such as the ability to grow, multiply and respond to stimuli. But even they can be ambiguous.

Life on Earth, as we now understand it, is based on the interaction of DNA, RNA and proteins. DNA serves as a drawing of life containing genetic instructions necessary for the development, survival and propagation of the body. These instructions are converted into messages that direct the production of proteins, working horses of the cell, which are responsible for a wide range of functions.

This complex DNA replication system, synthesis of proteins and cell processes - everything is based on long chains of molecules associated with carbon atoms - is fundamental to life on Earth. However, the universe may exist in life forms based on completely different principles and biochemistry.

Life on other planets could use completely different elements as building blocks. For example, silicon. Silicon -based life forms could have unique characteristics and adaptations. For example, they can use silicon -based structures to support, similarly to bones or shells in organisms based on carbon.

There are various theories of the origin of life on Earth. One of them is that the construction blocks of life on our planet were delivered by meteorites. The other is that these building blocks were formed spontaneously by means of geochemistry in the early environment of our planet.

However, not a single laboratory has yet been able to present a comprehensive, certain path to the formation of RNA, DNA and the first cellular life on Earth.

Many biological molecules are chiral, that is, they exist in two forms that are mirror reflections of each other, like the left and right hands. Although left- and right-sided molecules are usually produced in nature in equal quantities, recent meteorite tests revealed a small asymmetry in which left-sided forms prevail by 60%.

This asymmetry in organic molecules of cosmic origin is also observed in all biomolecules on Earth (proteins, sugars, amino acids, RNA and DNA), which suggests that it could arise due to a small imbalance obtained from the cosmos, which confirms the theory of extraterrestrial origin.

The Drake equation, developed by the astronomer Frank Drake in 1961, gives the basis for assessing the number of detected civilizations in the Milky Way. It includes factors such as the speed of star formation, the share of stars with planets and calculates the share of those planets where a reasonable life may arise. An optimistic assessment using this formula suggests that only 12,500 intelligent alien civilizations can exist in the Milky Way.

The main argument in favor of the existence of an alien life is probabilistic, based on the number of planets and stars.

The likelihood that humanity is the only reasonable civilization in the universe is estimated as one by 10 billion trillion. The probability of developing civilization on any one suitable planet for life is more than one by 60 billion.

In the presence of about 200 billion trillion stars in the observed universe, the existence of other technological species is very likely, potentially even within the Milky Way.

Earlier, scientists have stated that climate changes can destroy aliens.
