Scientists say weak magnetic storm could hit the Earth on May 16. It will be caused by a coronal mass ejection that happened on the Sun on May 12, according to space weather tracking website Space Weather..

It is noted that the magnetic storm will be category G1. The coronal mass ejection that will cause it is itself weak and dim.. He moved towards the Earth relatively slowly.

But as the site notes, solar activity doesn't end there.. And it is connected not with spots on the star, but with solar filaments..

Such structures are unstable and pose a greater threat than spots..

It is noted that now there are much more threads on the Sun than spots, and about half of them are directed clearly towards the Earth.. Their eruptions can lead to coronal plasma ejections, which, in turn, can cause magnetic storms on the planet..

Recall that on April 21, a “slow” coronal mass ejection reached the Earth.. Usually such plasma flows take several days to reach the Earth, this one flew to the planet for a week.
