A ring was found in a village near Lutsk, which probably belonged to the last independent ruler of the Galicia-Volyn state, Lyubart Gediminovich. As Petr Tronevich, a local historian and researcher of the history of Volyn of the XIV-XVI centuries, told the Volyn News Service (VSN), he was convinced to buy the jewel by the coat of arms and the place of its discovery..
At the same time, he is not sure that the ring belongs to Lubart, additional research will be carried out..
Previously, he published a post on his Facebook page: “I cannot help but share the joy of the Christmas gift with Lithuanian historians. Signet of the Grand Duke Dmitry Lubart Gediminovich"

Tornevich told VSN that he bought the ring from people who search for things with metal detectors after seeing their post with the jewel on the social network. According to the researcher, the ring was found near the village of Mstishin, the find was interested in its image on it: Lubart's coat of arms was a golden walking lion in a blue circle, which the prince adopted from his father-in-law. The same coat of arms is depicted on the discovered coins of the prince.
“If we look at the agreement between Prince Lubart and the Polish King Casimir III, concluded in 1566. Lubart is followed, in particular, by land judge Ivan Mstishinsky. I thought that he could put these seals on behalf of the prince, certify documents. Along with the signet, there were finds related to the period of Kievan Rus. Even in Mstishin there was a Lyubartov official,” Tronevich said..
Doubts that the ring belonged to Lubart arise because of its good preservation..
“However, when I took it in my hands, I saw that the ring looked old, it was clear that it had been used for a long time.. Shield (top of the ring, - ed..
) curved along the line head-neck-front paws. During use with a heel ring, this can happen because you need to press down on the base,” the researcher added..
Tronevich admits that he will conduct additional studies of the ring in order to confirm or deny its belonging to Lubart..
Recall that during the construction of fortifications on the coast of the Dnieper in the Kherson region, Ukrainian border guards discovered the remains of an ancient Roman settlement.
