Company Amazon announced that it acquired the rights to shoot the series on the universe of the book trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" by British writer John Ronald Ruel Tolkien. This is reported in a press release published on the website of the studio.

"The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that captures the imagination of generations of fans through books and movie screens," said Amazon spokeswoman Sharon Tal Iguado. She promised "to take the fans of the franchise to an epic journey through Middle-earth".

"Sharon and her team have extraordinary ideas - to transfer to the screen previously unexplored stories based on the work of Tolkien," - said Matt Gelsor, representative of Tolkien Estate and Trust, which has rights to the works of a British writer.

About Amazon's desire to remove the fantasy-television series on "The Lord of the Rings" became known on November 5. Then the company negotiated with the Tolkien Estate and Trust.

The most famous adaptation of Tolkien's works is the film trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" directed by Peter Jackson. The world premiere of the first part of the "Brotherhood of the Ring" was held at the end of 2001. The last part, "The Return of the King", was published in 2003. Jackson also made a series of films based on Tolkien's novel "The Hobbit, or There and Back".
