On the eve of the parliamentary elections in Germany scheduled for September 24, German security researchers found serious vulnerabilities in the voting software. According to the members of the hacking group Chaos Computer Club (CCC), the system for sending and counting votes lacks proper encryption and other tools to ensure data security.

This is a PC-Wahl software, used for many years in several federal states of Germany. "The number of potential attack vectors and severity of vulnerabilities have surpassed our worst fears," said CCC spokesperson Linus Neumann to the Die Zeit newsletter.

According to the warning of hackers, because of the lack of "basic principles of IT security" in the software, attackers can remotely change the voting results. However, the developer of PC-Wahl Volker Berninger (Volker Berninger) does not agree with the findings of researchers. "In the worst case, the unknown will only cause confusion. Fraudulent results can be published on the Internet, but the correct results will still remain on paper.

Yes, it will cause irritation and provoke confusion, but will not affect the results in any way, "Berninger said..

Chaos Computer Club is a decentralized German hacker society with free membership. Chaos Computer Club is fighting for freedom of information for all (one of the principles states: "All information, except private, must be available") and periodically organizes international meetings of hackers to discuss the social and social consequences of technological progress.
