Mozilla plans to collect data on the use of the Firefox browser, on the basis of this information to improve its work. A recent announcement in the Mozilla Governance group says that this will be a voluntary function that will be enabled by default. Not wishing to show which sites they visit will have to manually disable the option in the settings if they know about its existence.

Developers wonder which sites their browser users visit most often and on which there is Flash. Mozilla wants to use differentiated privacy and promises anonymous data collection.

The Google Open Source project called RAPPOR is the most well-known case of using differentiated privacy. Mozilla has studied his experience for use in his browser.

The company is going to conduct research and learn the opinion of users about their plans. The SHIELD study will test the implementation of RAPPOR by Mozilla developers. Data will be collected from the home pages of a restricted user group browser. It is planned to begin research in the middle of September.
