According to preliminary estimates by Gartner, in the second quarter of 2017 a total of 61.1 million PC-devices entered the world market, which is 4.3% less compared to the same period in 2016. The decline in the computer industry has not stopped for five years already, and this is the eleventh consecutive decline in PC shipments by the end of the quarter. Also, experts noted that the result for April-June 2017 was the lowest quarterly indicator in the global PC market since 2007.

"The PC price hike due to the shortage of DRAM-memory, SSD-drives and LCD panels had a very negative impact on the level of demand in the second quarter of 2017," said Mikako Kitagawa, a leading analyst at Gartner,. According to the expert, some of the manufacturers did not raise the price of their products to compensate for the rise in price of components, while others shifted the financial burden to buyers.

In the corporate segment, price growth was less pronounced, as the cost of production is often fixed in the terms of contracts. A much stronger price increase was noticeable in the consumer market, which is why many buyers decided to postpone the purchase of new PCs until better times, the specialist notes..

Also, the report traditionally provides a rating of the world's leading PC vendors. In the past quarter, HP Inc. Intercepted the championship of its Chinese rival Lenovo, putting 12.69 million PCs. The company demonstrates a positive annual dynamics for five consecutive quarters. In the past quarter, shipments from HP increased by 3.3%, taking into account the market share of the vendor rose from 19.2% to 20.8%. HP has increased shipments in most regions of the world, but it was especially good in the US where an increase was registered above the market average.

After the previous two quarters of growth, Lenovo's shipments fell 8.4% to 12.2 million units, and the share dropped from 20.8% to 19.9%. According to Mikako Kitagawa, the decline may reflect a change in Lenovo's strategy, which instead of increasing market share now seeks to protect its profits.

Dell for the fifth time in a row demonstrated the annual progress for the quarter. In April-June of 2017 the company produced about 9.6 million PCs, which is 1.

4% more than in the same quarter of 2016, while the vendor's share rose from 14.7 to 15.6%.

Further in the Gartner ranking is Apple with a delivery rate of 4.23 million units (-0.4%) and a 6.9% (+ 0.2%) share, and closed the list of ASUS and Acer, both fixing a double-digit decline. In the past quarter, Taiwan PC manufacturers delivered 4.04 and 3.85 million PCs (a decrease of 10.3% and 12.5%, respectively), taking into account their contribution to the total figure of 6.6% and 6.3%.
