The media became aware of the forthcoming massive layoffs at IBM. The company itself says that new job cuts are not planned.

According to the Economic Times (ET), with reference to informed sources, in the coming months IBM can reduce the number of personnel by 5 thousand people. According to the publication, the dismissal will affect only the Indian representative office of the company.

IBM did not confirm or deny the information on dismissals in response to an ET request. The company only reported the following:

"Retraining and rebalancing is an ongoing process aimed at enabling customers around the world to benefit faster from cognitive and cloud technologies".

Meanwhile, the publication of NDTV IBM representative denied rumors of possible dismissals, calling them "not true".

In early 2017, current and former IBM employees told Bloomberg about mass reductions around the world. According to them, in 2016 the company conducted three rounds of personnel cleansing, the latter touched several thousand employees, many of which represented IBM's divisions in Asia and Eastern Europe.
