Chinese manufacturer of personal computers and mobile devices Lenovo reported on the restructuring after two years of financial decline, the Financial Times (FT).
Lenovo's CEO Yang Yuanqing said on his Web site in Weibo that the company will be divided into two divisions: consumer (personal computers and mobile devices) and corporate (the main focus will be on business users and the provision of various services On data management).
As part of the restructuring, Lenovo will focus on the Chinese market. The local office will be headed by Liu Jun, who previously worked in the mobile division of Lenovo and directed the acquisition of Motorola Mobility in 2014.
"The Chinese market of smart devices is changing faster than others. To take advantage of opportunities in China, we are restructuring our business here, "- said Yuan Yuantsin.
Fang Dongxing, the founder of ChinaLab consulting company, believes that Lenovo did the right thing by returning Liu Jun, because the company needs a leader who is familiar to it, which can promptly change its business and reorient its activities to the Chinese market, since the Celestial Empire has become the world leader in technology.
"A few years ago, the Western market was an indicator of the global PC market. Now it's China. If the product has not found popularity in China, it will be poorly sold all over the world, "believes Dongxing.
FT notes that for two years, Lenovo has fixed either losses or falling profits. In the third quarter of 2016-2017 fiscal year (corresponding to October-December 2016 calendar year) net profit decreased by 67% year-on-year, to $ 98 million.
Revenue fell by 6% to $ 12.2 billion.
Financial difficulties in Lenovo are associated with macroeconomic uncertainty, lack of components and rising prices for them.
In addition, according to IDC, in the first quarter of 2017, for the first time in four years, Lenovo lost its status as the largest personal computer manufacturer in the world, losing first place to US HP Inc. In this regard, restructuring is seen as a necessary measure for Lenovo.
