If you "turn it off," you can cope with chronic pain or increased nervous sensitivity, writes The Daily Mail. Nervous pain is very difficult to treat, since most painkillers do not affect the correct receptors.

After traumas of nerves in some people, the brain and the rest of the body no longer adequately communicate. And in the end, even the slightest touch causes pain. Scientists have discovered a nerve chain in the brain, which is normally responsible for the differentiation of pain and touch. It is she who suffers with trauma.

So, a small group of neurons can receive sensory information coming from all parts of the body, amplify these signals and send them back to the place of contact.

The signals pass through the spinal cord, where they are interpreted in some way - the signals are delivered marked "pain" or "touch".

Under normal conditions, inhibitory neurons in the spinal cord share pain and touch. But because of the injury, the inhibitory effect is lost, and the touch information leads to the activation of pain neurons. At the same time, the ability to respond to real pain persists.
