A group of Spanish, British and American researchers made a discovery in the human genome that can bring about a revolution in science.

It is known that in the human genome there are 23 pairs of chromosomes, in total there are 28 thousand genes.

However, scientists note - some of them perform an auxiliary function in the synthesis, while others have lost this ability and do not bring any benefit to humans - such enzymes are called pseudogenes. According to researchers, such genes in the body are 20 percent - that is, a fifth of the entire genome is useless.

During the experiment, scientists studied information about protein structures from three research projects. A total of 22,210 genes with protein information. Of these, 19,446 were in all databases, and the rest of the genes were mostly pseudogenes. Also, they were added another 1470 genes that were tested.

As a result, all enzymes were included in the GENCODE general list in order to finally ascertain their belonging to pseudogenes.
