Experts are studying the possibility of using the enzyme for the treatment of cancer.

In the course of research conducted by a team of scientists at the University of Copenhagen, it was possible to find out that the genetic removal of only one enzyme in mice deprives them of the possibility of gaining weight in the future even when eating high-calorie food.

Scientists have called this enzyme NAMPT. As in animals and humans, he is responsible for the processes associated with obesity. It was found that being in adipose tissue, it increases metabolic processes in many other tissues, which contributes to the accumulation of fat in the body.

To understand the mechanism of its work, the researchers withdrew mice, deprived of the enzyme NAMPT in their fat tissue.

When these experimental mice received high-fat foods, they did not become fat. Simultaneously with them, mice with NAMPT safely gaining weight.

This study undoubtedly deserves the closest attention, but, unfortunately, the application of its results in medicine is too early to speak. As scientists have established, NAMPT can accumulate in various organs and tissues, resulting in the risk of dangerous side effects.
