Duke University (USA) is experiencing an experimental analgesic that will be prescribed for burning and pain caused by sunburn, as well as for chronic pain associated with diseases of the intestine and pancreas.

This is reported in the publication UPI.

This is a molecule that is able to simultaneously block TRPV4 receptors in the skin responsible for burning itch and TRPA1 receptors that mediate painful impulses from internal organs.

Both target receptors refer to ion channels of sensory nerve cells that play a key role in any pain.

After the success of blocking TRPV4 in 2009, the team of Professor Wolfgang Liedtke continued to work in this direction, inventing a promising 16-8 molecule that is 10 times more effective and capable of simultaneously eliminating both superficial pain and pain caused by internal organs.

"As a practitioner, I soon realized the incredible potential of these substances aimed simultaneously at two of the most important receptors for clinical medicine," admits the creator of the drug, Dr. Lidtke, a professor of neurology, anesthesiology and neurobiology at the University of Duke University Medical School..

In the course of their laboratory experiments, outlined on the pages of Scientific Reports, Dr. Lidtke's staff confirmed the efficacy and broad capabilities of the 16-8 molecule.

The new medicine will not only help to remove pruritus and pain, but also alleviate the condition of patients with musculoskeletal diseases (arthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis), chronic pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Unfortunately, until the appearance of a universal analgesic on the shelves, a few more years will pass. The researchers are still at the stage of in vitro experiments and are conducting the first experiments on mice. Ahead - long-term clinical trials and bureaucratic procedures.
