American physicians urged the public to pay attention to the fact that the use of alcohol significantly increases the risk of developing cancer. With an appeal to minimize alcohol consumption in the country, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

As ASCO vice president Susan Gapstur noted, the problem is that most Americans do not even realize that there is a stable relationship between the onset of many types of cancer and the consumption of alcoholic beverages. And even more - already living with cancer people who drink alcohol, increase the risk of getting a relapse disease.

According to recent sociological research, 70% of US citizens refuse to recognize alcohol as an important risk factor for cancer. At the same time, doctors note that alcohol increases the risk of developing cancer of the head, neck, esophagus, liver, rectum and mammary glands. About 4% of all cancer deaths in the US are directly related to alcohol.

ASCO specialists emphasize that, although the maximum risks are observed with long-term alcohol consumption, even moderate consumption (up to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women) may increase the risk.

For example, in rare women who drink, the risk of breast cancer rises by 4%, in moderately drinkers - by 23%.

And those representatives of the beautiful half of humanity who drink often (more than eight drinks a day) risk getting this type of cancer 63% more often.

Frequently drinking people of both sexes due to regular collision with alcohol-containing carcinogens increase the risk of developing cancer of the head, neck and oral cavity by more than 500%.

Along with this, alcohol can worsen the negative impact of smoking. And also complicate the recovery of patients with existing oncological diseases.
