Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a complex of physical and mental manifestations (pathological psychoneuroendocrine symptoms) that occur regularly 3 to 12 days before the onset of menstruation and completely disappear on the first day of menstruation. Suffers from PMS every third woman of childbearing age. The most severe premenstrual syndrome occurs in women older than 35 years. In severe PMS, all its painful manifestations are completed only with the end of menstruation.

What are the causes of PMS?.

The reasons for the emergence and development of ICP, according to the degree of decrease, are: hormonal imbalance (a violation of the ratio of progesterone and estrogens in the second phase of the menstrual cycle), an excess of concentration in the blood of prolactin; violation of water-salt balance in the body; allergic reaction; vegetative-vascular disorders.

Mechanisms for the onset of pre-local syndrome have not yet been fully elucidated. Development of it can cause mental stress, abnormal birth and abortion, acute and chronic infectious diseases, inflammatory diseases of the genital organs. It is believed that a significant role in its occurrence can play low blood sugar, a lack of vitamins (Vb) and mineral salts (magnesium).

How is premenstrual syndrome manifested?.

The clinical picture of premenstrual syndrome is very diverse (it is possible to count about one hundred of its various manifestations). No woman has all the symptoms of PMS at the same time (the usual number is from 1 to 12). The intensity of the clinical picture of premenstrual syndrome increases with the approach of menstruation. Each woman, as a rule, has a "her" premenstrual syndrome. Often, in the same woman from cycle to cycle, the manifestations of the syndrome change completely (both their nature and intensity and duration).
