In patients with chronic heart failure, the sensitivity of baroreceptors can be improved by high doses of vitamin C, as reported by the Internet publication for girls and women from 14 to 35 years old Pannochka. net In a June issue of Hypertension, Dr Gianfranco Piccirillo and his colleagues (Clinic Policlinico Umberto I, Rome) recall that high doses of vitamin C prevent damage to the endothelium in chronic heart failure (CHF). Due to this mechanism, vitamin C can restore the decreased sensitivity of baroreceptors, and also reduce the risk of sudden death.

Italian scientists examined 33 patients with CHF (ejection fraction not more than 35%) and 11 healthy subjects from the control group. The sensitivity of baroreceptors was compared before and after infusion of placebo or vitamin C (2. 5 mg).

In patients with CHF after the introduction of vitamin C, the sensitivity of the baroreceptors increased much more than after placebo infusion. In the control group, the baroreceptor sensitivity, on the contrary, remained virtually the same all the time.

According to the authors, if similar results are obtained for prolonged therapy with vitamin C, this will restore the balance of sympathetic and parasympathetic tone and, thereby, reduce the frequency of development of dangerous ventricular arrhythmias ".
