Excess fat in the buttocks can significantly reduce the effectiveness of a number of vaccines, painkillers and contraceptives, according to Irish researchers. The fact is that all these medicines are usually injected into the body through an injection in the gluteus muscle, and too thick a layer of fat in this place can simply stop the drug from entering the circulatory system of the patient in time.

According to a study conducted by employees of Dublin clinics Adelaide and Met, white Europeans and Americans as a whole are less susceptible to the effects of drugs injected. The results of the new study were presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, as reported by Forbes magazine. However, the Irish scientists recognize that they are not the pioneers of this widespread and important phenomenon from the point of view of therapists.

In the course of the experiment, 50 heterosexual patients aged between 21 and 87 regularly received injections into the gluteus muscle, then the positions of the injected drugs in the bodies of the participants in the experiment were monitored by special equipment.

Only in 32% of cases the introduced substance reached the vessels of the gluteus muscle and spread through the circulatory system of the body. In this case, women injections in a soft place were ineffective much more often than men. The gluteus muscle is the preferred site for injection, because in this part of the body there are relatively few sensitive nerve endings and large arteries that can damage the needle of the syringe, and at the same time a lot of small blood vessels through which the injected medication can spread rapidly throughout the human body.
