Back pain destroys the brain

The human body is like a debugged mechanism: one failure can lead to a disruption of the entire system.

So, American scientists have found that back pain leads to irreversible changes in the brain.

As explained by the researchers, in a healthy brain all areas are in relative equilibrium. If one share is active, respectively, the other is at rest. However, if the patient has a backache, the front of the brain responsible for emotions is in constant tension and can no longer return to a calm regime.

Neurons wear out, and, as the nerve cells recover very slowly, the brain collapses faster.

This leads to such consequences as sleep disturbance, chronic depression, anxiety and difficulty, if necessary, to make a decision.

Dr. Dante Cialwo, the study's lead, attracted several volunteers to participate in his experiment to test their mental abilities. Some of them suffered from chronic pain in the lower back, others were absolutely healthy. Using tomographs, scientists observed the activity of the brain of volunteers, who needed to solve the problems proposed by him, writes city24. ua In general, the results of both groups were approximately the same, although there was one significant difference: sufferers chose completely different solutions than healthy subjects.

Chialvo explained: "If you suffer from constant back pain 24 hours a day, seven days a week, then the constant perception of discomfort does not allow the gray substance to relax. The brain is constantly in an active state, and this is abnormal and leads to dysfunction. It is not always possible to restore the normal activity of the brain ".

Colleagues Chialvo came to the conclusion that one of the possible causes of neuronal death is the effect of back pain toxins.

On average, patients with a lower back pain were 11% less than the healthy participants in the experiment. According to scientists, every year, during which a person experiences suffering, "takes" 1.3 ml of gray matter.

If before the pain was a purely subjective sign of a malaise (the patient was difficult to explain to others what he was feeling), now it can be confirmed with the help of medical equipment. Researchers hope that their observation will help find the key to solving the problem.
