Turkish researchers have studied the vestibular system of children with episodic attacks of dizziness. We examined 34 children (20 of them boys) aged 4-18 years old with paroxysmal dizziness and / or dizziness.
It turned out that 12 children had a chronic headache similar to a migraine, and 30 children suffered from a traffic sickness. Electronystagmography and video-histogram showed two types of nystagmus: spontaneous vestibular nystagmus (41%) and benign positional nystagmus (BPPN) (59%).
The first type of nystagmus was evaluated as a symptom of vestibulopathy, and the second as a symptom of benign positional vertigo (BPPV). Audiometric examination testified to hearing loss at low frequencies.
As a result of the study, doctors conclude that peripheral vestibular problems in childhood appear in a fairly wide range, which varies from a short dizziness to a typical vestibular attack. However, they note that a significant number of these vestibular disorders can be associated with migraine medicus. En.
