The history of this disease is very ancient, cases of epidemic outbreaks of the disease after the Crusades, conquest of new territories by legionaries.

The term "gonorrhea", or "semenootchenie" (gonos-seed, rheo- flow), introduced in the II century. And, despite the fact that already for several centuries it is known that these excretions have nothing to do with the seed, and this disease is not strictly male, the name has stuck and is still used.

True in some countries, other names are popular. In Germany, for example, this disease is called a gonorrhea (from the German word trophen-drop).

Pathogens and pathways of infection.

Gonorrhea is a venereal disease caused by a gonococcal germ. There are 6 types of this microorganism. They are not resistant to external influences: they quickly die on drying, but in a humid environment they retain their vitality for a long time.

The source of infection is a patient with gonorrhea, usually a low-symptom or chronic form, or a gonococcus aureus.

During sexual intercourse, the gonorrhea gets on the mucous membrane of the genitals or urethra, causing local inflammation. Infection can spread to the rectum.

Possible and non-sexual transmission of infection through household items, bedding and underwear.

Infection of the child can occur when passing through the birth canal of a mother with a gonorrhea.

Diagnosis Diagnosis is based on the analysis of the secretions. A microscopic examination of the smear.

Main symptoms and course of the disease.

The first signs of the disease appear usually 3-5 days after infection, sometimes the incubation period is delayed up to 2 months.

In women, gonorrhea often occurs in a mildly symptomatic form. At present, the number of practically asymptomatic diseases reaches 90%. This is responsible for the change in the biological properties of gonococci under the influence of antibiotics, which modern people take quite often with various diseases.

Small doses of antibiotics can reduce gonococcal activity, but do not cure the body of the disease. That is why the incubation period is delayed, its symptoms become barely noticeable.

The woman first appears purulent discharge from the vagina, itching and burning in the external genital area, frequent urge and pain when urinating. These manifestations may be minor and unobtrusive. As a result, a woman who does not feel sick to the doctor does not address and is the source of infection.
