In people with vitamin D deficiency, the risk of dying is two times higher than in people whose vitamin D levels are normal, according to Austrian scientists.

Scientists have studied the health benefits and life expectancy depending on the level of vitamin D. It turned out that mortality is significantly lower for different reasons for those whose vitamin D levels are normal. For the first time, scientists studied the relationship between mortality and vitamin D levels in the body.

Vitamin D is produced in the body when sunlight hits the skin, for this reason it is sometimes called "vitamin light". This vitamin is also found in milk and oily fish, but despite this, people often experience a deficit in it.

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and is important for bone health. In an adult, vitamin D deficiency can lead to osteoporosis, and in children to rickets. The results of recent studies have shown that vitamin D contributes to the protective effect against cancer, as well as against peripheral vascular and tuberculosis.

Scientists have studied medical records of 3,200 people aged around 60 years who underwent cardiovascular examinations from 1997 to 2000.

In the course of the study, experts found that participants who had a low level of vitamin D were at greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.

According to scientists, the level of vitamin D is a very important factor affecting many processes in the body. Doctors need to pay more attention to this, say researchers. Specialists are also advised to take various supplements with vitamin D, since sunbathing, it is impossible to fill the necessary supply of vitamin.
