A new vaccine capable of coping with tuberculosis before and after infection was developed by Danish scientists from the Statens Serum Institute in Copenhagen. It guarantees protection for many years, reports BBC.. This development can turn modern medicine, because the problem of tuberculosis is extremely acute now, especially in developing countries. While the vaccine has been tested only on animals, but the results obtained inspire confidence in its effectiveness.

It is known: only in 5% of cases immediately after infection in a person there is a symptomatology (cough, pain in the chest). The fact is that, having got into the body, the bacterium causing the disease immediately changes the characteristic chemical signs and exists in a latent form. Only in 10% of patients does the bacterium lead to the development of acute symptoms.

Modern vaccines like BCG work if given before contact with bacteria. They do not prevent infection, but give symptoms and grow into a dangerous form of the disease.

But as soon as the bacterium has passed into a latent form, the vaccine does not act on it. The new vaccine solves this problem.

It combines proteins that trigger an immune response to both the active and passive form of tuberculosis. Thus, the development protects against the initial infection and does not allow it to move into an active form of the disease, when a person becomes extremely dangerous to others.
