Research: foods harmful and beneficial to the heart

Scientists once again evaluated the benefits of the Mediterranean diet for the heart, not forgetting to note the poor effect of foods with a high glycemic index on the health of the circulatory system. To this end, they studied data on 189 studies published from 1950 to 2007.

Of these: 146 studies were based on surveys, and 43 - on the study of the diet of volunteers invited for the experiment.

Andrew Mente of the Health Research Institute says that the diet has remained the backbone of heart disease prevention for several decades, but its impact on the risk of diseases has not been calculated so far.



Scientists have determined that a diet based on vegetables, cereals and olive oil has the most beneficial effect on the heart.

There is also an average relationship between the improvement of heart function and omega-3 fatty acids from sea fish, fruits, fiber, beta carotene. A little, but still strengthen the heart vitamin complexes E and C, acids in vegetable oil and alpha-linoleic acids in meat, eggs and milk.

Of course, changing the diet is not able to drastically reduce the risk of a stroke or heart attack, but is a good prevention of health. Sumy. Ua.
