Eating fatty foods can improve memory, US researchers say.

A team of scientists from the University of California conducted a study in which it found that fatty acids, converting in the intestine into oleoylethanolamide or OEA, improve memory.

Specialists hope on the basis of this work to create a new medicine to treat problems related to memory. The study was published in a recent issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Researchers predict that the new drug for action will be similar to drugs that regulate elevated levels of triglycerides (dangerous fats that can cause heart disease).

Elevated levels of OEA contribute to the loss of excess weight, lower blood cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels, which makes it possible to use OEA in the fight against excess weight, say scientists.

However, the specialists also found that OEA improves the fixation of memories by activating memory-improving signals in the amygdala - a part of the brain associated with memories and emotions. Experiment in rats showed a positive result from taking OEA. Experts plan further research into the effects of OEA on the health memory. Sumy. Ua.
