The authors of the study, presented at the 119th Annual Meeting of the American Psychological Association, experimentally proved the inconsistency of the myth that people instinctively know when they are full and stop eating at that moment.

Dr. Brian Wansink and colleagues from Cornell University (Ithaca, New York, USA) invited 60 subjects to a free lunch. At the same time, half of the participants received plates with a little more than 600 grams of soup, while the rest 30 under the table was mounted a device that quietly added soup to dishes. Both plates were of the same size.

In the course of the experiment, it was found that 73% of participants from the second group ate more than participants who received standard servings.

It is known that people who eat and drink from large plates and cups tend to eat more than those who prefer smaller plates, notes Dr. Wansink.

The authors recommend that people whose plans are getting rid of extra pounds, start using small plates, keep healthy food at hand, and unhealthy food - place in the depths of the refrigerator or cupboard.

In addition, it is useful to get in the habit of eating in the dining room or to cover the table in the kitchen according to all rules at every meal, they write.
