An international team of researchers led by the Yale School of Medicine states that she found out why some people overeat, reports The Times of India, citing the journal Nature Medicine.

It turned out that the free radicals are all to blame - the molecules associated with aging and tissue damage. They play a key role in terms of appetite suppression. Scientists have studied brain regimes that control hunger and found that an increased level of free radicals suppressed hunger in laboratory mice suffering from obesity, activating melanocortin neurons giving a feeling of satiety.

Commented the research leader Professor Tamas Horvath: "This is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, a person in the body must have the given molecules in order to stop eating at some point. On the other hand, if a person is constantly exposed to free radicals, he is threatened with cell damage and accelerated aging. This may explain why it is so difficult to develop a therapeutic approach in treating obesity ".
