Probiotics can significantly reduce the harm of radiation exposure - to such conclusions scientists came as a result of a new study. The state of several hundred cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy.

The health of those who had taken probiotics routinely before the procedures was significantly better than those who did not use the medication. Researchers are convinced that probiotics primarily protect our intestines, and prevent damage to the tissues of the abdominal cavity, cervix, prostate and many other internal organs.

Thus, scientists recommend all patients suffering from cancer of any of the internal organs, and especially the intestines, before using radiotherapy procedures to use probiotics. "With the destruction of the epithelium as a result of radiation, the bacteria that normally are in the intestine can undergo some changes and begin to move around the body, causing serious problems such as sepsis," the official research report says..

"Our work suggests that, in the ideal case scenario, a person should begin to use probiotics before the onset of symptoms, that is, in fact, being healthy, then the risk to his health will be significantly lower. However, even if he did not use probiotics earlier, he should begin to do this before the procedure, because probiotics not only help the body cope with damage - they also to a certain extent prevent such damage ".

At the same time, scientists add that to date there is every reason to believe that probiotics are able to reduce the harmful effects even when receiving a much higher dose of radiation exposure than with radiotherapy. In particular, the opinion is expressed that the regular use of probiotics in the area of ??the accident at the Fukushima station in Japan could significantly reduce the incidence of cancer in the region, and significantly increase the survival rate of people with cancer due to negative radiation exposure.
