Izmail is a city in southern Odesa Oblast on the Kiliia branch of the Danube and centre of Izmail Raion, with about 70,000 people. A major Danube port, its fortress was stormed by Suvorov's troops in 1790. Since 2022 a large share of Ukrainian grain exports has passed through the ports of Izmail and Reni.
