Istanbul is Turkey's largest city, with about 15.7 million people, on both banks of the Bosphorus in Europe and Asia. As Constantinople it was the capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace are UNESCO sites, and the Black Sea Grain Initiative was signed here in 2022.
