Algerian national team striker Riyad Mahrez no longer plays for the national team. The 35-year-old footballer spoke about his decision after the defeat to Switzerland with a 0:2 draw in the 1/8 final match of the World Cup 2026.
After the final whistle, the Algerian captain confirmed that he would end his international career.
" This will be my last match at the world championship. This will be my last match for the national team,” said Mahrez.
Through his career with the national team, he became one of the most successful football players in the history of Algerian football.. Mahrez represented Algeria at the 2014 World Championships, and in 2019, as captain, led the team to victory in the African Cup of Nations.
