Let's talk about another world championship in football.

This is another article in the series about the winners of world championships - from Uruguay in 1930 to Argentina in 2022. How many times have you heard about the 1934 rock tournament?.

How it all began Italy decided to hold the first world championship, which was held in 1930, but if the right to host the tournament was lost to Uruguay, the Italians decided to share their fate. Unfortunately, the situation was repeated exactly to the point: Italy is facing a state of emergency, and yet Uruguay is pointedly not going to Europe.

As soon as politics was thrown into the mix, such behavior had its own logic. Tournament 1934 Roku Mav non-team format - starting immediately with matches for the round, without a group stage. Also, the teams from Brazil and Argentina spent many days on the sea journey to Europe... in order to play just one match each.

As in Uruguay in 1930, the home tournament became the great trump card of Italy - but it was victorious that this advantage was significantly more aggressive. Dictator Benito Mussolini used the tournament as a propaganda tool. Over the years, the head coach of the national team, Vittorio Pozzo, stated that the Duce specifically asked him to recruit to the team without members of the fascist party - although the football players themselves affirmed that they had been eliminated from football, and they had no choice,.

Mussolini is one of the first sane politicians, as the power of football. For example, in the 1920s, the Italian Football Federation was reformed to control key functions. It was under this regime that Serie A was created in 1929 - before that, the championships were held outside of the daytime and daylight hours.. We decided not only to hold the world championship in Italy, but we wanted to win it at any price.

For foreigners, the atmosphere at the tournament seemed extremely tense. In Italy, the philosophy of “victory at any cost” was in full swing, which was manifested in the harsh play and suspicious decisions of the referees. Historian Simon Martin wrote that the final was more like a fascist rally than a football match.

And yet, in many aspects the tournament was successful. The format with 16 teams looked solid, the strongest teams took part in the 1930s, and therefore financial support in the stands there were a lot of fans, which created. In addition, the championship was for Italy.

Coach How to overcome the Emergency of 1930 Alberto Supich lost his place in history gladly as a shadowy figure, when his super-sharp points were sharpened - and thus he gained full-fledged status as a coach - then Vittorio Pozzo was again. A brutal authoritarian leader who has disliked the national team for four times (in his own way, even in Italian), has a reputation as a deep tactician.

Pozzo attributed part of his remorse to the beginning of England's early 20th century, where he began to bury Manchester United. As a football player, he did not reach special heights, working as coach Torino and at the same time with the Pirelli tire company. It seemed that he had already completed his coaching career, but the death of his teammate changed his outlook on life.

Pozzo gained popularity among journalists, being a journalist himself - before, during and after his work in the team. Alas, the results: now we are deprived of one coach who won two world championships, and one who triumphed both at the Emergency and at the Olympics.

Tactics Vittorio Pozzo is considered one of the creators of the tactical “method” scheme, which was a modernized version of the classic 2-3-5. In the new formation, the wing halfbacks dropped deeper and assumed functions similar to current fullbacks, and the inside forwards from the attacking heel rotated closer to the center of the field. For the time being, this scheme was still favored by the 2-3-5 variation, but by the looks of 2025, it will soon be 4-3-3..

The key role was played by the center - the central supporter of the trio, who was previously considered an attacking leader. Aside from the changes in the offside rule, teams began to act more cautiously, and Pozzo is one of the first to understand that the center is now ready to act more closely, and sometimes to personally mark the opponent’s center forward. Luis Monti took his role to the next level, especially in the finals, according to the opinion of the Austrian Matthias Zindelar, one of the most exciting football players in the tournament.

Italy scored these goals in the first round, defeating the weak US team (this was the stage of the 1/8 finals), and in the next 420 games in the tournament they managed to score only five goals - to achieve a modest showing for.

Pozzo's team was encouraged by discipline, physical strength and care. This is a team that took advantage of the defense and checked the moment for an individual breakthrough, and not a team that tried to overtake its opponent. This model itself has become a hallmark of Italian football.

The fact is that you can earn Centhav Luis Monti Grav not less for Italy - at the final of the Emergency of 1930 he stole the colors of Argentina. Due to his appearance in Uruguay and the visibility of the Italian community, he signed Juventus, after which Pozzo hoped to get him to the Italian national team. This has become possible, because FIFA has not yet stopped the change in the football community. Monti dosi is deprived of a single gravel, which is the highest in the final of the world championship for two different teams.

Two more Germans who played in the final for Italy were also nationals in Argentina - Reymundo Orsita and Enrique Guaita. Offense is small Italian root. Orsi played 12 matches for Argentina before moving to Juventus, after which he changed the football colossus. Guaita played four matches for Argentina, first signed a contract with Roma and joined the Italian national team.

Tsikavo, that Italy “exported” the very flanking Gravians from behind the cordon - the country always had difficulties with the development of the famous Hungarians. It was reported from the 2006 champion warehouse that the Argentinean was behind the adventures of Mauro Camoranesi, who took away the Italian passport of his father, who emigrated to Argentina back in 1873 - long before the nationalization of the Graves..

“Just as they can die for Italy, they can also die for Italy,” said Pozzo, when asked about the naturalization of foreigners, subject to respect for their affiliation before serving in the army.. Although football itself was significantly less concerned with this “honor”.

Argentina was so afraid of spending even more soldiers that it actually sent a reserve team during the 1934 emergency. Of the finalists of 1930, only one took part in the tournament - that same Monti.

The key landmark of the Milan Stadium, known as San Siro, officially bears the name of Giuseppe Meazzi, the striker of Inter (and then Milan), who was the leading star of the Italian team on. In his youth he was a defender, then became a forward, and then an insider. Despite the enemy's performance, Meazza was not only a scorer, but also a master of dribbling and was able to give a subtle pass.

He was one of the five players who won all five matches in the tournament. He himself scored the seventh goal in the 7:1 defeat of the United States, and also became the author of the possible goal in the out-matched quarter-final with national team Spain.

Meazza was a natural genius - there’s no need to get bogged down in training or defense work, but then you really love cigarettes. The first living football idol of Italy, he was famous for his perfectly styled hair, advertising various products, and after completing his career, he began to act in films and become a coach..

“Mati Meazza is in the team - this is how to start the match with a 1:0 score,” said Pozzo. In the finals, despite the injury, he played a key role in the eventual goal: the Czechoslovakians respected that he was playing, which had no sense of his marking - and at that very moment Meazza grabbed the ball and.

Final Italy's victory over Czechoslovakia with a 2:1 score at the final was remembered not so much by the game as by the Christmastide scenes in the stands - everything looked like a goddamn success for the regime. Although it is true that the Stadio Olimpico will be far from being forgotten: in 1934 football had not yet gained great popularity in Rome, as was the case in the last days.

Czechoslovakia itself looked beautiful. Vona opened the rakhunok 19 minutes before the end of the main hour - Antonin Puig scored from a hot spot after that. The Czechoslovakians have little chance of gaining the advantage: Jiri Sobotka did not realize a good goal, and Frantisek Svoboda hit the post.

That year Italy created a terrible vice. Nine weeks before the final whistle, the players called Reymundo Orsi - the details of his goal were just a few minutes away - and at the additional hour Bologna center forward Angelo Schiavio scored a goal.. Vin, having rejected the pass, managed to escape, even though he was injured, accurately shooting at the goal. After the final, they literally collapsed onto the lawn in front of. Before the speech, one of Pozzo’s key tactical ideas in the tournament was the constant rotation of the position between Guaita (winger) and Schiavio (forward). In the final it gave a result: the connection itself brought victory.

Ale Italy took away more than just a cup from the world. This was the Mussolina tournament - and at the same time, the Gravians were awarded the Duce Cup with the trophy, and also a photograph especially signed by the Duce.

The culmination of the Goal Orsi, which Italy compared to the rocket, becoming a true symbol of the final - to make it more memorable, the lower ball. The winger moved from the flank to the center, taking a look at what would be beaten from the left, and then heatedly shot with the outside right - which caught everyone, including Czechoslovakian goalkeeper Frantisek. It’s great that Planichka, who was the captain of his team, was the captain of his team. The ball spun effectively right at the goal.

Journalists, who were highlighting the finale, respected what would be a happy ending. The dissolution of Orsi met with them: having said that, we can repeat such a blow, if desired.. The next day, in the presence of photographers, they tried to break through the same 20 times... and without scoring. The press did not step up: this was a stupid goal.

In truth, this was the best team in the tournament?

How to forget behind the arms the fact that at the championship there was no worthy champion of the world, Uruguay, and also the England team (which at that time was respected as not the strongest in the world - it defeated Italy after.

Wonderful speeches began even before the start. In the selection against Greece, Italy won the first match 4:0. Ale before the match-match in Athens, the Greeks started playing a raffle. Officially - due to the hopelessness of the situation, unofficially - there were feelings that the Italians simply bought Vidmova, promising to finance the new headquarters of the Greek Football Federation. In 1995, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported that a number of foreign football officials had been bribed from Greece..

Perhaps Italy would have passed on. Already, the situation at the tournament looked suspicious. Following this information, Mussolini himself specifically selected referees for the matches of the Italian national team. And with a marvelous manner these judges praised the decisions, which time after time played into the hands of the rulers.

In the quarterfinals against Spain, Italy played a very strong role in calculating the superniks - Zokrema, Ricardo Zamora, who was also considered the world's greatest goalkeeper. The Italians' goal in the first match (1:1) was probably scored with a foul against Samori - behind the shadows of the brutal game of that hour. The referee initially did not secure the ball, but after the protests of the Italians he changed his mind. Then the Spaniards' goal was denied - either through offside.

At the end of the day, Spain came out in a very weakened warehouse - this change, Zamora did not engrave. Italy won 1:0, but again it was not without scandals: two goals of the Spaniards were disallowed through offside, and one of these moments, according to eyewitnesses, was screamingly pardoned. The French newspaper L'Auto - the predecessor of L'Equipe - wrote that the Swiss referee " After the tournament, both FIFA and the Swiss Football Federation were put out of court.

In the final against Austria, Italy's 1:0 victory was less scandalous (although one of the Austrians confirmed that he had headed the ball straight to the Italian). The main factor was the wetness of the lawn: through the new Austrians, due to the combinational game, they simply could not show their strength. And Italy was also fortunate that Karl Ciszek did not realize the scoring chance in the end.

“The tournament has lost its bitter taste across the borders of Italy,” wrote football historian Ian Morrison. — “There was little doubt that Italy had won a great deal to what it played at home, and the mischievous pressure from the stands bawled the judges.”.

There is no doubt: Pozzo was a legendary coach, and Meazza was an attacker of the world’s rival. Ale itself success Italy screams chimalo food. True, even through several fates - in France - they are denying the chance to bring to light what is truly the strongest.

The Athletic.
