The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the expansion of the African Cup of Nations to 28 teams. The offensive rock tournament will be held successfully in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. According to CAF President Patrice Motsepe, the goal is to increase the level of competition and ensure greater value for the region.
The exact format of the participation of four additional commands and the date of introduction of the innovation have not yet been revealed. Since 2019, the final stage of the African Cup will be held with the participation of 24 teams after the previous expansion of 16 teams.
Motsepe also confirmed the transition of the African Cup of Nations to a four-year cycle from 2028 and announced the start of the upcoming African League of Nations from 2029. The new tournament will involve all 54 CAF associations, and the final stage will save 16 teams.
