Ponomarenko is among the top 10 youngest goal scorers in the history of the Ukrainian national team

Ukraine's team lost to Sweden in the 1/2 round playoff match for the 2026 Emergency Situation (1:3).

In this match, Dynamo Kiev forward Matviy Ponomarenko scored his debut goal against the national team, for which this was the first match for the head team of the country.



At the time of the goal, Ponomarenko was 20 years old and 74 days old, which allowed him to reach the top 10 youngest goal scorers in the history of national team Ukraine. Matvy takes his place in front of Danil Sikan, Andriy Gusin and Roman Zozuleya.

The record belongs to Oleksandr Zinchenko (19 years and 166 days) – this happened in 2016. He will be followed by Andriy Shevchenko, Dmytro Mikhailenko, Andriy Yarmolenko, Oleksandr Gladky and Yaroslav Rakitsky.

Ukraine will play its next match against Albania. Comrade gra will be on the 31st of February at 21:45.
