Romania head coach Mircea Lucescu will continue to carry out his duties and lead the team in the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup qualification, despite recent health problems.

According to the official website of the Romanian Football Federation, this decision was made after recent medical examinations and discussions between the organization’s management and the coach. The 80-year-old specialist noted that his health allows him to perform his duties, and the conclusion of the Brussels clinic also confirmed his readiness to continue working.

“The most important thing for me now is preparing the team for the playoffs.. I have always kept in touch with my assistants and players, we have worked at the highest level throughout this period. Our players are talented and want to make Romanians happy.

I believe in the ambition and strength of these players and their ability to overcome this challenge. I'm sure that together we can overcome the qualification. Now a good atmosphere is important for us, which will allow us to calmly prepare for key matches,” Lucescu said..

We remind you that the Romanian national team will play against Turkey in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs against Turkey on March 26. If successful in the final of the selection, on March 31, the Romanians will meet the winner of the Slovakia-Kosovo pair.
