Ex-Liverpool striker Emil Heskey commented on the criticism of Mohamed Salah, who remains unsettled by the pressure on the team’s recent performances.

At the time when Jamie Carragher called on Salah to “come out and speak for the team” instead of going behind Virgil van Dijk’s back, Heskey has other thoughts.

He learned that, as the senior citizen, Salah may take credit for his responsibility, but said that the Egyptian was by no means a leader of the same type as the legendary Steven Gerrard.

" People like Virgil van Dijk or Curtis Jones will come out and talk and deal with the situation directly - but not about Salah. However, if he was at the peak of his form, I don’t think he said much,” the attacker said.

Arne Slot's team is going through a difficult period in the 2025/26 season, having won only one of the remaining five matches in all tournaments. On Wednesday, the Reds played against Sunderland (1:1) and currently sit in 8th place in the Premier League.

Salah, who last season led the team to the title (29 goals and 18 assists), looks like a pale shadow of himself during the current campaign and spent the remaining two matches playing on the bench..

Hesky also added that the club is probably already preparing for the upcoming event without its head:.

" It will be a big difference for Liverpool if we no longer play Salah on a regular basis,” said the legend..

The team has a chance to improve the situation on Saturday in the foreign match against Leeds.
