Real Madrid in the 2020/21 season was left without conquests, as a result of which the resignation of the head coach of “creamy” Zinedine Zidane followed at his own request.

This decision of the 48-year-old French specialist remained not fully understood by the majority of Galacticos fans, which is why Zidane himself was forced to write an open letter to the editorial board of the Spanish newspaper AS, in which he tried to explain the reasons and logic of his actions.

" In addition, for this there was an excellent support in the form of previously won trophies together with the team. I was indebted to the President for the previous years spent in Real Madrid as a footballer and coach, so I could not refuse.

But now, I'm leaving. This is not the end - I am not jumping out of the coaching boat, and I am not going to stop in my career.. In May 2018 I quit because, after two and a half years with so many victories and trophies, I felt that the team needed a new impetus in order to stay at the top of world football..

Today the situation is completely different.. I left because I felt that the club no longer believed in me, which is a fundamental factor that I badly need.. No medium or long term support.

I know football well, I know the requirements of such a great club as Real, so I understand perfectly well: I won nothing - I have to leave.

At the final stage of my work with the team, one important detail was forgotten - everything that was built by me in the club with my daily efforts.. I received the status of a winner in this club, and continued to be in it for the sake of new victories. However, in addition to cups, there are also relationships with people, emotions, the life of the team..

I felt that all this at one point ceased to be appreciated, the understanding of the direction of the club's development was lost, and in the end I was made to blame for even the slightest setbacks.

I would like to respect what we have worked hard and long on together, I would like my relationship with the club and the president to be different in the last months of my work..

I didn't need any privileges, don't get me wrong, no! I just needed people to remember what I did for this club.

In current realities, the life of a head coach at the head of a team lasts two seasons, sometimes a little more. If you want this period to be longer, it is important that harmonious relationships are stopped.. It's more important than money, fame and everything else.. It's worth taking care of first..

It hurt me when I once again read in the press after one of the losses that they were going to kick me out of the team if I didn't win the next game.. All these messages were deliberately thrown into the media, creating negative pressure on the team, causing doubts about our project and misunderstandings within the team..

Fortunately, I worked with real professionals who believed in me to the last, were going to die on the field for me..

When something went wrong, they got a big win by keeping me on the coaching bench.. All because they just believed in me and knew that I believed in them.

I am not the best coach in the world, but I am able to give players confidence in their own abilities.. This is necessary for every footballer, regardless of what role he has in the club, "

Recall that Zidane won the trophy with Real Madrid on average every 23.9 matches while working with the team..
