FIFA approved a change in the rules regarding the fourth substitution in the extra time of matches at the stages of the playoffs of the world championships. This is the official website of the Council of the International Football Federation.

This decision was taken by FIFA at a council in Bogota.

Note that in the group stage and in the regular time there will still be a rule of three substitutions.

Recall that the Confederations Cup has already applied the fourth replacement rule. For the first time in the history of international tournaments, the fourth substitute was made by the Portuguese national team. In the match with Chile in the 116th minute instead of Andre Gomes came Gelson Martins.

World Cup 2018 will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15.
