The midfielder of the Polish Jagiellonian Taras Romanchuk refused from the citizenship of Ukraine.
A photo of an ex-Ukrainian with a Polish document is published on the official page of the Twitter club. Footballer explained his decision by the presence of Polish roots and said that he would return the Ukrainian passport at the end of the season.
"I am very happy to receive Polish citizenship, it was worth expecting. When I moved to Jagiellonia in 2014, I spoke with the club's vice-president. I told him that I have Polish roots, because my grandmother was born in Poland.
We found all the documents confirming its origin, and a year ago I sent a request for Polish citizenship. I can have only one citizenship in Ukraine.
I will return my passport, most likely in May, after the end of the season. I am already very used to Poland, and I do not hide that it is good to live here. I already know the hymn and sing it along with others, "Romanchuk told Sportowe Fakty.
Note that the player has played in Jagiellonia since 2014 and has 12 goals in 94 matches.
Romanchuk is one of the candidates for a trip to the World Cup in the national team of Poland. However, this idea does not like the ex-goalkeeper of the national team.
