Midfielder Max Mayer can leave Schalke at the end of the season as a free agent.
According to the sports director of the "cobalt" Christian Heidel, the 22-year-old German refused to renew his agreement.
"Agent Mayer received a proposal to extend the contract on January 22, which was due to be answered before February 15. On this day he informed us that Max did not accept the offer ", - quotes Heidel news agency dpa.
